Cease Fire Order Recovered From WWI Telegraphist’s Effects
A World War I cease firing order issued by American headquarters to U S troops in France was found among the effects of William Morey. The telegram, dated November 11 1918 at 11 a m, was relayed to the Third corps after erasures affected First and Fifth corps and the French Colonials. Morey, a telegraph operator with Company B 319th field signal battalion later served with Western Union in Daytona Beach. He died a year ago, and the historic messages were preserved among his belongings.
