R L Dowell, a senior minister overseeing 17 congregations in Piedmont, visits the High Point area. He will speak at the local Kingdom Hall on Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 4 p.m. as part of an advanced ministerial training program for the North Wilkesboro convention set for November 30 through December 1.

English Language in Catholic Mass Advocated by Vernacular Society

Col. John K. Ross-Duggan leads efforts backed by the Vernacular Society to introduce national languages into Catholic worship, arguing Latin could be replaced for parts of the Mass. The aim is to enable laity to participate more actively, with bishops split on the change yet many supporting vernacular use for the opening prayers and readings. The group, centered in Chicago and Long Beach, has about 2,000 members and seeks Vatican approval for revised liturgical practice.

Missionary to Hold Revival at Liberty Church

A Southern Baptist missionary Rev Alvin E Spencer Jr and his wife will lead a revival at Liberty Baptist Church starting 7 30 pm tomorrow through November 18 with nightly services. They are the first missionaries to Okinawa for Southern Baptists and work with the 70 000 to 80 000 Americans stationed there. They previously served in Mackinato near Naha and have roles with the Okinawa Baptist Association and Japan Baptist Convention. They plan new work in Koza City after furlough. Spencer is a native of Freport Iowa and studied at Wheaton College Denison University and Central Baptist Theological Seminary.

Bishop Baker to Confirm Episcopalians at St Mary's

Father Joe’s Mission Continues Across Continents

In Arkansas a priest known as Father Joe Lauro leaves Eureka Springs to join Bolivia service with the Society of St. James The Apostle. He plans five years abroad to preach, aid the poor, and provide medical care while combatting communism. He previously served 13 years in Arkansas parishes and earned distinction as a bomber pilot in WWII and the RCAF and US Army Air Corps, earning the British and American Distinguished Flying Crosses and the Air Medal.

Stewardship Campaign Under Way at Lexington Avenue Baptist

Lexington Avenue Baptist Church nears end of its four week stewardship drive with Carlton Hughes reporting steady progress. A Loyalty Dinner is planned for November 15 at the Masonic Temple on S Main Street, with about 500 expected. reservations are being received by Mrs. Phyliss Efird. The program runs through November 25, Victory Day, when pledges will be totaled to reach a $73,000 budget goal. Hughes says success depends on God's grace and effort.
