Textile Workers Union seeks 15 cent increase for 100000 mills
The CIO Textile Workers Union asked for a 15 cent an hour rise for 100000 workers in 125 northern cotton and rayon mills and a new minimum of $1.03 an hour, with average pay up from $1.07 to $1.22. The move followed a vote to seek a 20 cent raise for 80000 woolen-worsted workers and comes as southern cotton textile workers gain a nine percent raise in New York. The union cited high profits and promised wage boosts while noting a 30 day lead time before contract expiration January 1.
