Noted New York Lawyer John W. Goff Dies at 76
John W. Goff, longtime counsel for the Lexow committee and former recorder and supreme court justice, presided over famed trials including Molineaux and Becker. He contracted pneumonia while petitioning on election day and died last night at age 76 after retiring from the bench in 1918.

Kentucky Mob Drives Off Negro Workers At Dix River Dam
Armed white workers drove about 500 black laborers from the Dix River dam camp near Harrodsburg Kentucky after Edward Winkly age 18 a new bridegroom was fatally shot by black highwaymen. National guardsmen arrived this morning and guards escorted fleeing workers while payoffs and terminations were ordered. Two black men Walter Chance and John Williams were arrested and held for safety.

Lee Bryant and Paul Beckner, both Negroes, were bound over to federal court after a hearing before United States Commissioner Warren G. Brown. Probable cause found, each held under $300 bond. Arrested in Sumner township Saturday night, they were said to possess a gallon of liquor.

Armistice Day Plans Completed for City Parade
Preparations are completed for Armistice Day festivities led by Andrew Jackson Post of the American Legion. A mammoth street parade starts at 10 AM from the North Main bandstand, featuring ex service men, Confederate veterans, ambulances, Red Cross, floats, and decorated cars. Burned to Death at Lee Marble Works President
William H. Gross aged 84, president of the Lee Marble Works, was burned to death when his home in LER, Massachusetts, burned yesterday morning. House keeper Mrs. Rebecca Hall was rescued by firemen.

Burke Not Guilty In Break In Case At High Point College
Grady Burke, a well known High Point man, was dismissed by Judge Hedgecock after a hearing on a charge of attempting to break and enter the home of Mrs. Ruth Simpson near the Pickett cotton mill. No witness could positively identify him. Burke claimed he was in Randolph County that day and not near the house. Officers testified Burke had a good character aside from drinking. A new student government was inaugurated at the High Point college with Joe Holmes of Graham as president and a two-council structure for boys and girls.

Troops Sent to Aid Sheriff at Harrodsburg
National guard troops were rushed from Frankfort to Mercer county after reports of race rioting sparked by the killing of Edward Winkly, a 35 year old dam worker, by a man named Jelly Roll. Guardsmen joined mobilized forces at High Bridge and Harrodsburg while 19 black workers said they fled a mob attack at a Dix River construction camp.

Maryland representative John Philip Hill faces six counts for manufacturing and possessing wine and cider at Baltimore home. Nov 10 report states the largest liquor seizure in Atlanta was destroyed by federal agents. 24,000 quarts of Scotch rye and champagne were found hidden behind a railroad box car blind in Atlanta yards. The car, destined to Johnson, Johnson of Brunswick, was detached and turned over to Prohibition Director Dismuke. Estimated value ranges from $200,000 to $225,000. Police suspect a large Atlantic smuggling syndicate aimed at the holiday trade in Chicago and other cities. Efforts continue to identify consignors and consignees.

Ford Touring Car Damaged by Blaze on Willowbrook Street
A Ford touring car owned by O. Simmons was destroyed by fire after gas in the tank ignited on Willowbrook Street near midnight. Simmons escaped unharmed and a companion, unnamed, also survived. The car was brought to a local garage in a wrecked, blistered condition with the windshield cracked.
