Mission Day speakers at Green Street Baptist Church observance

Miss Viola Campbell and Roy B. Culler Sr will speak at Green Street Baptist Church tomorrow in morning and evening services. Campbell, Hickory native and Furman graduate, earned a master’s in religious education and served with Home Mission Board before becoming a mission teacher and director in Mexico. Culler, Sunday School superintendent, will recount his recent Orient trip at the evening service.

Laymen Gather for NCCLA Officers and Talks at Immaculate Heart

Greensboro Deanery of the North Carolina Catholic Laymen's Association meets at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church at 3 30 p m to elect new officers for two years. Storms Dan tangle towns leaving one dead and many hurt

A series of violent storms and tornadoes swept through Newton, Rocky Mount, Surry, Yadkin, and nearby areas causing extensive damage. Henry Lutz, 30, was electrocuted after touching a broken power line. Five homes were destroyed near Rocky Mount with 14 injured. Siloam Elementary School in Surry County lost its side wall but $10,000 in damage, and 80 students were unharmed. Tornadoes touched down near Candor and winds were reported in Charlotte and Winston-Salem.

AFL CIO Vice President James B Carey charged on a speech read for him that industry uses race hate to bust unions. Troops Reduced at Little Rock as Integration Enforcers Scale Down

Only 225 federal paratroopers remained on duty in Little Rock as a second 101st Airborne contingent returned to Fort Campbell. About 8,500 Arkansas Guardsmen were demobilized since October, while 275 troopers were airlifted from Little Rock Air Force Base yesterday. The force enforces a federal court order for Central High School integration.

Manis Skinkowski Accident After Motorist Gaffe

Leavenworth police found 52 year old Martin Skinkowski lying with a broken ankle on a sidewalk after a motorist allegedly stopped, asked directions, then kicked him and drove off. Skinkowski said the car bore Nebraska plates and did not disclose his exact statement to the driver.
