Voting Habits Discussed At Meeting

In Raleigh on November 8 state leaders debated North Carolina voting habits and the likely primary vote total. Estimates ranged from 350000 to 700000 with supporters citing both figures. Local elections in Asheville and Charlotte drew near record or heavy turnout on liquor and bond issues while broader statewide issues showed few clear stakes. The Senate contest between Broughton and Umstead remains the main race, with the governor’s race seen as personality driven and lacking strong issues. If 700000 votes occur, personal popularity will drive the result more than policy.
