Dr. Joseph G. Mayo aged 34, son of well known Rochester physicians, was killed when his auto was struck by the North Coast Limited train at a crossing two miles south of Cochrane. The car and dog perished. the engineer could not stop in time on the downhill grade. Mayo, on a hunting trip along the Mississippi, died at the scene. his body taken to Alma.
