Mills says pre freeze raises should stand under wage rules
Rep. Wilbur Mills, head of the Ways and Means Committee, argues the government cannot nullify raises negotiated before the wage price freeze. He says the Pay Board must recognize contracts entered before Aug 1, and Congress lacks authority to void them or delegate such power to Nixon or the board. Mills cautions labor may withdraw if their demands are unmet as the Pay Board seeks an agreement ahead of the freeze end.
