Sheriff Phipps Re-elected in Guilford County Vote

Sheriff Joe Phipps, Democratic nominee, thanked supporters after a hard fought race in Guilford County. Opponent Robert E. Lowdermilk, Republican, also expressed gratitude to backers as returns showed Phipps leading with about 9,540 votes to 4,962 for Lowdermilk in mostly complete tabulation.

Leonard To Serve Four Months Term and Pay Fine

W P Leonard of High Point will serve four months in jail and pay a 1500 fine after Superior Court Judge Felix E Alley reconsidered his involuntary manslaughter conviction. The payment benefits the families of Ralph Jones and Elizabeth Iy, who were harmed in the year old car wreck. Continuous prayer for judgment was extended to November 16 to allow time to raise the funds and arrange service.
