Three Car Accidents Cause Over 500 in Damages
Police report three automobile mishaps yesterday totaling just over 500 in damages. Dewey J. Stanley 20 of Trinity drove a 1941 Pontiac into a backing car at 708 S Hamilton Street. Walter H. Prince 95 of 223 Fisher Street drove a 1941 Plymouth damaged $250. Mary B. Reeves Route 3 Greensboro and Mildred D. Whipple 617 Sunset Drive were in a Morris Street collision with $25 and $200 damages respectively. Otis W. Blackwell Jr., 19, 210 E. Ray Street, struck a street hole causing $40 damage to a 1948 Hudson near 1104 Adams Street. No injuries or arrests reported.

No Cases Reach Jury In Two Days Of Local Court
After two and a half days the Superior Court civil term saw not a single case go before the jury for a verdict. Most actions ended in compromise settlements or rulings from Judge Hatch. Cases included a $25,000 suit by Gilbert E. Jacobs against Mason and Dixon Lines Inc and John L. Rothrock, with undisclosed damages for alleged negligence. Silver Craft Furniture Co sought $2,137.10 plus interest for damaged shipments, settled for a disclosed figure. Dora Van Cannon vs the City of High Point and others also settled. High Point Savings and Trust Co vs Sara Loy Lindley Garner paused to await Judge Ratch’s ruling on a deed legality. A draft board in Knoxville learned Navy Chief Petty Officer Bill Brewer had served for 40 years. A tip suggested olive oil on the inside of a pot can ease jam cooking.

The North Carolina Utilities Commission issues an order allowing Carolina Natural Gas Co to absorb Piedmont Gas Co at Hickory. Carolina plans to buy all Piedmont stock for $224,000 and connect Piedmont facilities to the Transcontinental pipeline.
