A man identified as Jack White, 49, pleaded guilty in Atlanta to using the mails to defraud about $23,000 from attorneys in Alabama, Tennessee, North Carolina and South Carolina, to aid a proposed but unpublished state history project. Jessie Pepper Convicted Of Manslaughter
In Coushatta Louisiana on November 6 a jury convicted 18 year old R Jessie Pepper of manslaughter in the gossip slaying of 17 year old Mary Elvin Allen. Pepper was sentenced to six to 18 months in the state penitentiary with notice of appeal filed by her attorneys. Pepper testified she shot her former chum in self defense.

Sanatorium Opens Tomorrow Near Black Mountain
North Carolina's new 550 000 dollar tuberculosis sanatorium on the Black Mountain highway will open tomorrow to receive 58 patients moved from the Sanatorium, N. C. Dr S M Pittinger medical director and superintendent said relatives will bring the patients. Official dedication set for November 10 with most equipment installed by then.

Auto collision near Ridgeland claims one life
Mr and Mrs William M Bennett of Plainfield New Jersey were killed in a head on crash south of Ridgeland Illinois. Mrs Velma Owens of San Diego California was seriously injured and her children Charlotte Owens and Johnnie Owens were hurt. Hospital staff said none of the injured could talk. Bennett was 71 and drove toward St Petersburg Florida. The Owens were bound for Philadelphia where Mrs Owens husband works at the navy yard. Mrs Owens was not expected to live. Doctors said preliminary checks showed no serious injury to Miss Owens or Johnnie Owens.
