Death of James R Barton at High Point aged 83

James Rufus Barton native of Guilford county died at his Liberty Street home in High Point after months of poor health. Born November 21 1862 in Jamestown he lived mainly in High Point except 20 years in Indiana. Survived by wife Martha Madlin three sons George Charles Walter and three daughters Sarah Plymon Mary Nina Barton. Funeral tomorrow at 4 pm at his home with services by Rev Haworth and Rev Brown and burial in Oakwood cemetery with Numa F Reid lodge conducting.

Klan Members Give $500 To Church

Five hooded men in Klan robes drove up to a church in New Bern and presented Rev. Preston Bell Hall with five one hundred dollar bills for the building fund. The incident left the congregation stunned and unsettled by the symbolic donation.
