Utilities Commission Replies To Railroads Rate Petition
The North Carolina Utilities Commission filed its reply with the Interstate Commerce Commission today to a railroad petition seeking modification of about 1,000 opinions and decisions so railroads may publish higher charges effective January 1, 1937. Freight rate expert C. H. Noah said the plan aims to replace emergency interstate freight surcharges that expire December 31. The commission opposed the full railroads proposal, noting a projected $60.4 million deficit in eight months without surcharges, vs a net income of about $16 million.
