Canadian Sailors Reach Shore Safely
Three Canadian sailors aboard the 31 foot sloop Kline were rescued after three days adrift in gale winds off the North Carolina coast. Two crewmen Dave McNaughton and Colin Stock described nervous exhaustion after their shipboard cooking ran low. They learned their owner Pierre Asselin’s father had died while he was en route to Montreal for the funeral. The trio had left for a Virgin Islands holiday when a storm with 18 foot waves and 45 mph winds struck. Coast Guard cutter Reliance brought them to shore after locating the sloop 280 miles southeast of Wilmington.
