Women’s Lib Hits Magazines in Playgirl Debut
The High Point Enterprise reports on Playgirl founder Lambert and Viva publisher Guccione shaping a new wave in women’s erotica. Notable figures approached for centerfolds include Chad Everett and Sen. Howard Baker, with Lyle Waggoner cited as another who would have refused. Studies suggest women read nude male photos for storytelling and relationship context, while younger readers skew toward curiosity and empowerment. The piece notes legal doubts about obscenity guidelines and asserts plans against gendered club ventures from both publishers.
