Oil Hunt Along North Carolina Coast Expands Leasing
The Carolina coast sees a fierce oil hunt with leases on sound bottoms and state lands from New to Cape Hatteras. A well near Morehead reaches 3700 feet with early results showing some oil or gas but no commercial find yet. State rules and two 1945 measures aim to conserve resources, register operators, and plug abandoned wells.
