Suspension Bridge Linking Canada Could Open Within Five Years
Detroit May 34 The proposed Windsor Detroit suspension bridge would be the sixth U S Canada link and third to carry highway traffic. Chief engineer Charles Evans Fowler said construction could start late next fall or winter and take about four years. The $30 million project would connect Ontario with the U S middle west, serving more people than any other international bridge. Permission has been granted by both nations, with President Wilson’s signature near his term’s end. The main span would be 1770 feet, with dual roadways, sidewalks, tram tracks, and four lower deck railway tracks linking Essex Terminal railway and joint U S lines. Existing bridges include Niagara Falls, Buffalo, and the St. Mary’s River near Sault Ste. Marie.
