Passenger dies in Greensboro crash near Vandalia Road
Thomas David Wood of 1807 Johnson Street died instantly when the car carrying him went out of control on Vandalia Road south of Greensboro and struck a utility pole guy wire. Operator Claude Shelton Burrows of High Point, 40, suffered a broken arm and possible skull fracture. he faces manslaughter charges after witnesses said the vehicle was traveling 80 to 90 mph and struck the wire 10 feet off the ground. Wood, a Sherrod Shirt Co. shipping clerk, was born February 1, 1914, and survived by his wife Doris Pike, one daughter, three brothers, his mother, and three grandchildren. Funeral services set for Monday at 4 p.m. at N Main Street Baptist Church. burial at Primitive Baptist Cemetery.
