New Orleans May 28 AP Herbert Hoover called on the north to aid 600000 flood victims in the Mississippi Valley. He asked for 2000000 more for Red Cross and 1500000 in northern bank loans to fund reconstruction in Arkansas Louisiana and Mississippi. He outlined the three stage relief machine and praised volunteers, coast guard and Red Cross in camps from Cairo to the Gulf.

In the Atchafalaya basin two last ditch levee fights continued as flood waters moved along both river banks. More than 300 square miles on the east side were flooded by torrents through crevasses at McCrea, about 100 miles northwest of New Orleans, with many miles also covered on the lower end by backwaters in lakes and bayous.
