Bismarck Sunk After Battle With Royal Navy Forces

The German battleship Bismarck was sunk following pursuit by British forces after Hood was destroyed off the Denmark Strait. Warships Lost in Crete Raid and RAF Claims

Suits Totaling $70 000 Filed As Wreck Aftermath

Three lawsuits totaling 70 000 were filed in Guilford Superior Court by William Grady Martin of Greensboro against Greensboro Distributing Company. He seeks 50 000 for his wife Ruth Jane Phillips Martin and 10 000 for each of their two children, Donald Gray and Patty Dean Martin, who died in a three-vehicle crash near High Point on May 2. The suit alleges the beer truck, over 60 mph, caused the fatal collision three miles from Greensboro on the Greensboro High Point road.

Furniture Workers Strike Over Pay Increase

About 75 to 100 upholsterers at Tomlinson’s High Point plant walk out after management again cannot meet wage demands. A flat 6 percent raise was reportedly requested. production halted due to the strike clustered in one division. Thomasville Chair and Marsh Furniture denied any strikes or labor trouble.

Judge Puts Three On Probation In Cotton Theft Case

In Guilford Superior Court Judge W H S Burgwyn placed three High Point defendants on probation after guilty pleas in a case involving baled cotton valued at more than 300 dollars. Jay Williard received a two to five year sentence suspended during a five year probation with costs paid. Co-defendants Goins and Wray faced shorter sentences suspended on probation and costs. The scheme involved twenty odd bales shipped to Southern Furniture Company and sold at about half market value.

Bismarck sunk after clash with Hood and British force

German high command reported the battleship Bismarck was crippled after engaging the British squadron including the Hood and King George V.
