Beaucatcher debate drags on as Asheville ponders tunnel or cut
A long running fight over Beaucatcher Mountain near Asheville pits a tunnel plan against a large notch cut to carry a six lane freeway. The Beaucatcher Mountain Defense Association seeks a tunnel for environmental and cost reasons, while the North Carolina Highway Commission and the Federal Highway Administration back the cut.
