The Senate will take up the omnibus housing bill Monday as Sen. Smathers Floyd Fla said a move may be made to lower down payments on FHA insured homes. The bill totals nearly 9 billion dollars with authorizations for housing. Sen Sparkmen Ala wrote lower down payments into the bill before it was revised in the housing subcommittee. The full banking committee wiped out these provisions though Smathers expected army Democrats to back the lower payments on the floor.
Asheville May 25 editor Demaree Bess says the Formosan uprising stems from over extended U S foreign policy and too much interference in other nations. He notes Russia shares this flaw, citing anti American actions and the Formosa crisis as evidence.
Washington reports a reduction of about 600 soldiers from the 3,500 strong Formosa Military Assistance Advisory Group.
