Wilmington Poised for Deep Channel Trade Growth

College field representatives anticipate North Carolina gains as Wilmington’s deeper Cape Fear channel allows deep draft tankers and larger imports. Expected annual gasoline imports rise by about 150 million gallons with fertilizer shipments already ranking Wilmington third among southern ports. The wider river channel could boost cotton tobacco and NC manufactured goods exports statewide. Mexico produced 44,687,879 barrels of petroleum in 1929.
