In Da Nang, the last rebel unit surrendered, giving Premier Ky near total control of South Viet Nam’s second largest city after eight days of clashes. Marines and armored cars surrounded the Buddhist complex at Tinh Hoi pagoda as about 400 rebels capitulated, ending a revolt just before a junta deadline.
The US Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit affirmed a Davis conviction on one count for mailing obscene material via a phonograph wrapper in a Southern District of New York federal case. The ruling also noted a related Supreme Court decision tossing out mailings of film prints.
Dr. William Friday told the UNC Board of Trustees a broad curriculum should be offered on all four campuses. Treasury asked Congress to raise the temporary debt ceiling to 832 billion dollars amid a 4 billion dollar projected deficit. The joint committee staff presented estimates showing a 2.5 billion dollar deficit or possible budget surplus in fiscal 1967, while tax revenues and expenditures were debated in a closed House Ways and Means hearing.
