Sailors Ready to Donate Blood for Astronaut Carpenter
Ships across three recovery areas hold nearly 47 tons of medical gear as Captain Carpenter and backup pilot Schirra face orbital flight. Navy doctors describe changes from the Glenn mission, including new in flight food, an exercise device, a semi automatic blood pressure instrument, and recovery ship tests for balance. Prospective donors aboard three recovery ships and six destroyers stand ready in case transfusion is needed.
