Nebraska Slayer Starkweather Granted Two Week Stay
Charles Starkweather aged 20, known for a murderous rampage, was granted a two week stay of execution a little before the scheduled 6 a.m. firing by U.S. District Judge Richard Robinson in Omaha. The stay to June 4 allows time for an appeal of a habeas corpus writ as prosecutors note his innocence claims were not raised in the original filing. Caril Fugate remains unaware of the reprieve at York’s reform school. Starkweather’s father appealed through circuit and district judges before the stay was signed at 4:22 a.m.
