Worth Marshall, about 21, operator of a diner on South Main Asheboro, died in a head on collision near Blair Park bridge on the Asheboro road shortly after 3 AM. Raymond Bennett, about 23, suffered a painful head injury as three others in the heavier car escaped serious harm. two more occupants were held pending charges. The crash involved Ernest Blackman’s car and Ernie Harris, with Bennett and Bristowe in the back seat. Marshall is survived by his parents and several siblings.

Alvis Maynard, a C C worker, drowned while swimming with friends near Fort Macon. Coast guard crew spent over an hour trying to resuscitate him but failed. Maynard’s home is near Raleigh and his body will be sent there for burial.
