Dairying Boom Glides Across Alleghany County
SPARTA AP Fourteen new dairies have begun operating in Alleghany county since 1970 as statewide dairy numbers decline. Alleghany now lists 74 dairies with two more Grade A plants under construction and a possible total of 76 in 1976. County extension chairman Roger Murdoch cites pure grass, clean water, high milk quality, and strong livestock agriculture as drivers of the dairy boom.
