Braden Speech Bars on South Carolina Campus
University officials said Braden could not speak on campus due to a state law banning Communists and Fifth Amendment objectors from state supported colleges. The NAACP chapter had planned an on campus talk but cancelled after administrators refused to permit it amid Braden's contempt of Congress conviction. Braden, info director of the Southern Education Fund, was slated to appear in Columbia on April 29.
