Henley Co of High Point, a real estate firm, has 665 subscribed of 810 000 authorized capital, with Thomas Martin, F. L. Landis, W. B. Steel, and others of High Point among subscribers.

North Carolina liquor board cites Maryland shipments in April
Raleigh May 17 Chairman Cadar Moore of the state liquor board released a report showing that one Maryland liquor concern shipped 8,262 cases of whisky into dry North Carolina counties during April after sending more than 6,000 cases into the area in March. One Concord man was listed as getting 2,287 cases in April and 972 cases went to three Greensboro customers including a filling station which got 443 cases.

In London Kentucky on May 17 Hugh Taylor a former Harlan county deputy linked to a civil liberties committee testimony was brought to court to face charges against 66 coal operators officers and corporations accused of terrorizing the Harlan coal fields. He failed to answer roll call as judges began selecting a jury. Government agents found Taylor near St Charles Virginia at his wife’s relatives and returned him to Kentucky. Prison escape prompts manhunt for condemned trio
A sheriff led a posse from Columbia into Newberry and Fairfield counties to pursue three condemned prisoners who escaped from Richland county jail at 4:15 am. The inmates, Joe Wingard 19 Herbert Moorman 41 and Clayton Crans 8, had been among six condemned for the killing of Penitentiary Guard Captain J Olin Sanders. The trio reportedly escaped by breaking cell locks and forging a key from a spoon and zinc, using running water to muffle noise. They stole five blankets and left personal items behind. All three wore gray denim and black prison shoes. The jailer noted the break was the first in 20 years.
