Nixon seeks 60 day preventive detention for dangerous federal offenders

The Nixon administration asks Congress to authorize pretrial detention up to 60 days for felons charged with violent federal offenses. Postage Boost Is Effective Tonight

The Postal Service raises rates tonight without injunction as Supreme Court not yet asked to intervene. First class letters rise from six to eight cents, airmail from 10 to 11, postcards from five to six, other classes up by about a third amid Rate Commission hearings.
