Raleigh May 15 The unemployment insurance fund in North Carolina rose above the 100 million dollar level this month driven by war time wage changes and larger employer payments Col A L Fletcher commission chairman reported the fund stands at 100 109884 with more than 10 000 employers contributing to provide workers with income during job loss due to no fault of their own He noted the balance equals receipts from employers plus 6117882 in earned interest minus all expenditures and obligations.
Allied forces reported capture of Yonabaru airfield as Maj Gen Lerine Shepherd Jr. led the sixth Marine Division toward Naha and Shuri defenses. Col Merlin F. Schneider assessed risks as breaching the Shuri line promised a decisive uphill struggle with heavy costs.
Liquor revenues in North Carolina's 25 counties totaled 1.547 million for April, down 235 thousand from March's 1.783 million. New Hanover led with 199,364. Durham 173,960. Wake 143,169. County figures list Beaufort to Wilson with varied receipts.
