Aerial dogfight over Red River Valley claims MIGs shot down
Maj. Wilbur R. Dudley of Alamogordo New Mexico led the pursuit against four MIGs 105 to 115 miles northwest of Hanoi. His two wingmen maneuvered as Dudley fired two heat seeking Sidewinder missiles hitting a fourth MIG. Dudley and his crewman 1st Lt. Imantes Kringelis of Lake Zurich Illinois returned safely. It was the 12th MIG reported shot down in the war. The spokesman noted no enemy markings were seen on the jets.

MIG Pilot Made Mistake Says American Jet Flier
Air Force Maj. Wilbur R. Dudley said the MIG pilot likely suffered tunnel vision when he pursued the unarmed RB66 recon plane. Dudley and Lt. Imantes Kringelis, aboard an F4C Phantom, described firing a heat seeking Sidewinder as the MIG 17 tried to fire on the RB66 about 105 miles north of Da Nang, claiming the enemy pilot made one mistake in the engagement.
