Panel Rejects Utilities Nominees In Raleigh
Gov Jim Holshouser faced a setback as a House subcommittee voted against confirming his three NC Utilities Commission nominees. Lester Teal and Patricia Locke were rejected for term moves or qualifications, while W Scott Harvey’s bid was contingent on Teal’s move. The push to block temporary appointments could leave two vacancies after April resignations. Meanwhile legislators advanced malpractice bills and a windfall tax measure to fund a teacher and state worker raise, with a Senate panel killing a daycare safety enforcement bill.
