Fire Arson Blamed for $75,000 Gastonia Home Burn
In Gastonia a split level home valued at about $75,000 was destroyed by arson last Saturday night. The female owner Mary Gladys Huffstettler had been threatened and was in Florida. Investigators found jars with 40 to 50 gallons of accelerant near the blaze. A prior fatal shooting linked to the owner’s past occurred February 18 at another Huffstettler property.

Skelton's Former Wife Found Dead
Georgia Skelton, 54, former wife of comedian Red Skelton, was found dead at Rancho Mirage California from an apparently self inflicted gunshot wound. A housekeeper heard the shot and found her washing dishes. She had been despondent and recently hospitalized. Skelton was en route to Palm Springs as the body went to a mortuary for autopsy. Survived by daughter Valentina of La Jolla California.
