Senator Bankhead Presses Organized Cotton Plan

Washington May 11 Senator Bankhead D Ala urged an organized movement to restrict cotton above each farmer's allotment under the balance production control program. Speaking by radio he said mills and buyers backing such a plan could raise prices for 10,000,000 bales while overproduction fears push prices down. He noted a 60 percent tax on excess cotton under the bill, criticized the 75 percent demand, and blamed policy for lower prices. The senator said price depends on expected bale totals and grower overproduction efforts.
