British airmen claim credit for downing 27 German machines in a single day along the Flanders front. Allied forces report air control as the action continues with sustained patrols and engagements extending across the sector.
Allied reports say French and British forces pressuring Germans with artillery and raids in Flanders and near the Somme. British air force claims 27 German planes downed for six losses. French infantry gains east of La Crée and near Montdidier. Indications suggest German trouble from actions in Ukraine, with Bavarian troops redeployed from Flanders.
Paris officials say heavy artillery duels along the Amiens front in Picardy as French troops push ground near Orvillers Sorel and southeast of Montdidier. The communication notes gains on the southern flank of the Grivesnes Nailly Raneval area.

London reports the old cruiser Vindictive nearing Ostend harbor under intense German shore fire after a bombardment by naval guns and machine guns. Allied air forces supported the raid with continuous bombing of harbor works as destroyers and monitors closed in in fog reduced visibility.
A freight derailment near Jamestown late Friday afternoon disrupted both northbound and southbound tracks near the Deep River trestle. Train 35 was delayed about 75 minutes, No. 43 slightly, and No. 46 held until 7 40 before switching to the southbound track. The wreck involved a northbound freight following a army motor trucks train. no injuries reported as tracks were cleared by early evening.
A. L. Ellison and Charles R. Barrier have bought part of the High Point Planing mill opposite Marsh Furniture. They plan to manufacture frames by processing rough logs to finished product. Both men bring prior manufacturing experience and overhaul work is underway with operations expected to begin in days.

Washington May 11 The first formal protest against the railroad wage commission recommendations was filed with Director McAdoo by P J Coyle of Boston grand president of the Brotherhood of Station Employes. He said railroads cannot maintain a permanent freight handlers force at the rates without an eight hour day.

Houston May 11 Second Lieutenant Eddy Davis died from injuries after his plane from Ellington Field crashed. The craft went into a tall spin due to engine trouble. Second Lieutenant A Lawrence in the rear seat was unharmed.
Oscar E. Wilson of High Point was reelected president of the North Carolina division of the Travelers' Protective Association at the state convention in Wilson. Charles F. Tomlinson was named railroad committee chair, with Tomlinson and A. St. Wishart elected as delegates to the national gathering in St. Louis. Fayetteville was chosen as the 1919 convention site along the Cape Fear. Delegates praised Wilson for hosting the best convention yet as they were kept busy by Wilson's hospitality.
French troops advanced their lines slightly east of Locre on the Flanders front and captured prisoners. Raids west of Merville yielded prisoners and machine guns. An enemy raid east of Ypres was stopped by French fire.
The toll from the Camp Jackson troop train wreck rose to nine as of morning. Private W C Bryson of Candler North Carolina died at the base hospital, and a military board led by Lt Halstead of the 21st Infantry began a full investigation into the incident.
James Mc Laughlin steward of the Eagles club was found dead in his room at the club in Columbia South Carolina. The skull over his left ear was crushed. Police began an investigation but had no clues to the slayer. He was a native of Springfield Massachusetts.
Washington reports that over 1.3 million men have been drafted and sent to France or in service or training. A larger May to June mobilization is expected with cantonments expanding. Officials say full strength could exceed 3 million within 12 to 13 months, perhaps approaching five million.
