Approximately two thousand visitors toured The Enterprise as its attractive new home opened to the public. From 1 o'clock until late last night crowds registered, carnations given, and guided tours shown through the plant, with big crowds 7 to 10 pm. Officials say operations continued normally throughout the inspection.
Tax records show Guilford, Mecklenberg, and Vance counties as top retailers in North Carolina due to revised bookkeeping that credits sales to origin counties rather than operators. Guilford reports 541 445.19 in taxes for year ending June 30 1935, about eight percent of total state revenue, with expected rise as exemptions end and meals and hotel tax added.

A massive crowd inVenetia Square cheered as Badoglio was named viceroy of Ethiopia and Haile Selassie went into exile. An Italian column from Harar reportedly occupied Dire Dawa amid crowds and Red Cross aidrisks as soldiers and civilians watched the spectacle.
Memorial services were held at Duke University in Durham to mark the first anniversary of the death of Washington Duke, noted national benefactor and founder of a prominent philanthropic family.
At Edenton on May 9 four people died when two cars went through an open bridge section on the Chowan River. Victims were Arthur Newbern 19 Thomas Phelps 18 William Smith 26 all Bertie County and Essie Bunch 17 Edenton.
North Carolina expects fair skies and warm temperatures through Sunday with Monday largely fair, scattered afternoon thundershowers in the mountains and slightly cooler along the North coast. South Carolina forecast calls for fair and warm conditions Sunday and Monday.

Mrs. Charles H. Phillips 63 wife of prominent physician Dr Charles H Phillips died suddenly at home from an angina attack after a Monday illness in Asheville. Survived by husband two sons Marion and Charles Jr a daughter Mrs Nat Walker two sisters and six grandchildren. Funeral Monday at 4 from Main Street Methodist with Rev R Dwight Ware officiating. Burial in church cemetery.

Vincent former University of Minnesota president and Rockefeller Foundation retiree, Dr Amos Square Rotary International director from Ossining N Y, and Dr Charles J Smith Roanoke College president from Salem Va are listed as speakers for the Ro tary District convention in Winston Salem May 19 and 20.

Two detectives shot and killed a man and critically wounded another during an alleged attack on a 14-year-old girl on an elevated Bronx bridge. The dead man was identified as Alfred Brader, 26. the second man’s identity was not released. Detectives Winterhalter and Gumelt reported they intervened as the suspects assaulted the girl.

Police search for 22 year old Joe Dann after he allegedly shot his wife at about 1 30 in the morning. She was found by Hall’s store on East Washington Street with a single breast wound and neighbors reported hearing three shots. An inquest is anticipated as county coroner Dr. W W Harvey prepares to arrive from Greensboro. Dann fled the scene with a gun in hand. no weapon was recovered.
Mrs Mary Grubbs of 705 Mangum Avenue was rushed to Burrus Memorial hospital after an alleged poison dose. Sechrost's ambulance answered the call and she was found after a reported domestic dispute with her husband, who had not returned by 3 AM.
Troy May 9 Sandy Graham seeking the Democratic nomination for governor called Ralph W McDonald public enemy number one of North Carolina schools. He warned McDonald would close many schools with a repeal of sales tax and other cuts, while praising opponents and promising teacher salaries and class reductions.
