Cablevision's Slow Growth Baffles High Point Officials
High Point officials note cablevision under Carolina's Cable, Inc. has added viewing pleasure but little city revenue. From 1970-71 to 1974-75 the city received 10k then 15k annually, but FCC changes in 1975 reduced minimums and set a 5 percent gross share. In 1975-76 the city got 507.60, rising to 3,122.48 the next year as service expands. The amended franchise requires service to the corporate area by February 1978 with 75 homes per cable mile density, a target not yet verified. Management reports 68 miles of cable in operation and ongoing construction, with areas like Oakview still underserved.
