Bus plunges off road in Ashe County fatal crash
A Ashe County school bus overturned four times after accelerator allegedly stuck on a gravel mountain road. One 10-year-old girl Brenda Pugh died. 17 others injured including three seriously. In Raleigh a Negro man identified as John W. Fleming was half-led from the state legislative restaurant by highway patrolmen after he refused to leave. His companion D N Howard said both men were Negro newsmen and Fleming worked for a Negro news service. Howard left voluntarily after Capt Chadwick’s request. Three Negroes were arrested Wednesday for refusing to leave. The restaurant serves legislators and staff only. Howard sought Capitol Correspondents Association accreditation afterward.
