Banks Fight Jones Wheeler Bill and Warn on Farm Credit Shift
The American Bankers Association critiques the Jones Wheeler farm credit proposal as creating a government driven system that would concentrate farm mortgage borrowing in a federal bureau. Hanes argues it would erode credit integrity, raise national debt, and commoditize farmer access to credit. He cites speeches by Secretary Wallace and notes bankers expanding services with pledged income and advisers. An ABA banquet is announced with Cadman and Wiggin speakers as bankers urge broader credit access and caution against government overreach.
