April Jobless Rate Edges Up in 1971

The BLS reports unemployment at 6.1 percent for April with the rate for Black workers rising to 10.0 percent the highest since January 1964. White unemployment stays at 5.6 percent and teen unemployment at 17.2 percent. Total employment rises slightly led by farm jobs as the work week edges higher.
