Burglary Victim to Die Friday in Raleigh
James Brumfield alias Ernest is scheduled for execution Friday for first degree burglary in Union county. He broke into Rev. M. D. L. Preslar’s Wingate home and tried to abduct his 19 year old daughter, dragging her into the yard before fleeing. Miss Preslar had been a Meredith college student. Executive Counsel Odus M Full, back from Union county probe, found no new evidence or commutation grounds.
Brumfield Execution Proceeding In Royal Romance Ed
The statement confirms no stay of execution in the Brumfield case as the Supreme Court reviewed the trial record and found no error. Officials note capital cases stay open until late, but no new evidence suggests innocence or unfair trial. Brumfield is believed to have kidnap and assault motives tied to the Preslar home incident.
