High Point City Schools Superintendent Dr. Edwin L. West Jr. has been named to the Learning Institute of North Carolina board of directors by Gov. James B. Hunt. The 22 member board includes political and educational leaders and private-sector representatives. LINC, begun in 1964, is funded by state grants and private sources to study educational needs and develop proposals. It also shares information on effective practices and assists schools with flow programs. The organization is located on Old Highway 421 in Pfaff town.
The Central YMCA in Winston Salem announces a beginners course starting May 13 at 8 p.m. and an intermediate course starting May 12 at 8 p.m. Registration is at the first lesson and more details are available from the YMCA. Also in the region, an open house at Murdoch Center is set for May 13 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Camp Cheerio's color sound movie will air on WGHP Channel 8 Sunday at 9:30 a.m.
