Lawmaker Proposes 10 Month School Year Shift
Rep. George Uzzell and Sen. Ernest Ross push bills to drop 12th grade and extend the year from nine to 10 months. They argue fewer teachers and supplies would cut costs while boosting teacher pay from 3900 to 4300 dollars per extra month, with an estimated seven million dollars yearly impact. State Superintendent Carroll has not commented. Ross says Carroll favors exploring the idea.
