A Texas mob burns three negroes at Stake College and a Columbia professor is slain. Hedgecock case in Greensboro court delays as bank turmoil looms. Haile kills professor Holmes and himself at South Carolina University.

Drowned Hunters Edgar Lytle and Hugh Bradshaw Near Hickory

Edgar Lytle and Hugh Bradshaw, both from Hickory, drowned after their motorboat capsized on an artificial lake twelve miles north of Hickory during a frog hunting trip. Clement Geitner survived, swam to shore, and alerted relatives. Lytle was 25 and a Hickory Daily Record linotype operator. Bradshaw, a married young businessman, previously served aboard the U S S Montana.

Photographer arrested for holding up a boy

W. W. Miller, a local photographer, was arrested about 4 AM by Policeman W. G. Friddle on a highway robbery charge. Russell Wood, a youth, says Miller stopped him near the post office and claimed to be an officer then found $4 on the boy and offered to take $3.50 to let him go to a restaurant. Bond was set at 1060 but Judge Walter Royal reduced it to 250. Miller, who arrived from Salisbury, is also charged with impersonating an officer.

Child Drowns In Spring At Yuma Home

Sebert Wolfe the two year old son of Mr and Mrs J K Wolfe of Yuma accidentally drowned in a spring near their home in Gate City Virginia on May 6.

Low voter interest in Guilford County primary election

With the Democratic primary a month away interest is described as very low in High Point and Guilford County. Local candidates compete for solicitor, house of representatives, clerk of court, sheriff, county treasurer, register of deeds, coroner, surveyor and county commissioner seats. Several incumbents seek re election while new names appear on the ballot.

Driver of Death Car Under Arrest in MAnsSlaughter Case

Fayet teville May 6 Chas G Marsh driver of the car in which John Underwood former mayor was killed and Ned Grady and Leon Anderson and Marsh were injured when their auto crashed near West End Friday night gave bond of 1000 for appearance in Moore county superior court August 14 to answer a charge of manslaughter. Four witnesses testified at the coroner s inquest that whisky was found in the car and the jury ruled Underwood died while Marsh drove at an unreasonable speed intoxicated.

A tendency to take profits after recent sales and favorable southern weather pressured the cotton market in New York on May 6. Opening futures were mixed with gains for May and losses for active months, with declines of 20 to 33 points seen early.

Hogs Fed on Mash from Moonshine Farm Raid

In Franklin County Virginia four hogs a sow and a litter from Jamison farm near Figgsboro fed on mash from a moonshine still during a raid that destroyed three stills. Officers cut tails to identify the pigs for later seizure under the Volstead Act.

Dublin Sells Bonds For School Building Funds

Dublin district school board sold $45 40 in bonds bearing 5 percent interest at a premium of $6960 to Wil Roth & Co of Cincinnati. The funds will be used to construct and equip school buildings in the district.

Greensboro gears up for a public hearing Monday as ministers Sunday school workers and many citizens push to revoke poolroom licenses by May 31. Wellon Upholds Blair In Foundation Ruling

Treasury secretary Mellon notified Senator Glass that Commissioner Blair found contributions to the Woodrow Wilson Foundation not exempt from income tax. He offered to hold the matter in abeyance pending possible reorganization to qualify for exemptions under the law.
