Day Care Leaders Urge Open Minded Search For Early Education Gain
Dr. Carolyn Spillman urged Friday’s Development Day Care board to keep open minds and pursue improvements in early childhood education. She cited studies linking one to three year olds experiences to later learning, while three to five showed less impact. The agency enters its seventh year with expanded eligibility beyond low income families, offering access to care for paying families as well. Lawrence Graves was named board chairman for the coming year, with Roland Hanes and Mrs. Viyella Mitchell as vice chairmen, Mrs. Joseph Hayworth as treasurer, and Hugh Bennett as secretary. County and city officials discuss proposed zoning changes extending High Point authority beyond city limits under a 1971 act, with Davidson County set to assume zoning duties in the affected areas.
