City officials consider using the police department as a court for minor traffic violations aimed at reducing court appearances. A survey will determine feasibility while Braden notes the need for keeping records of those excused. In March 53 cases went to court and 64 red tickets were torn up by desk sergeants.
War Price and Ration Board chief clerk J. F. Jones notes margarine oils and dairy products remain rationed and beef stays on the list through June 3. He lists points per pound for various beef cuts and mentions veal lamb and pork are still restricted.
Dr. L. D. Bauer of N C State College will speak at the Commonwealth Agricultural Society of High Point meeting Tuesday at 8 pm in the county building. The group, a branch of a national society, has about 100 members and covers all farming types. Officers are O. V. Kester president N. L. Garner vice president and Mrs. Sherwood secretary treasurer. Dr. Bauer, Ohio native and Ohio State graduate, earned a Missouri PhD in soil chemistry and has written over 42 papers. He became North Carolina agriculture experiment station director in 1941 and is active in Raleigh civic affairs.
Leland Evans a 39 year old Negro janitor at the Security Bank Building was injured when his head was caught between the elevator and an opening at the bottom of the shaft. Police said he had gone into the shaft to find a screw and was crushed when the elevator was lowered. He was treated in a local hospital.
The department of agriculture states the United States either produces or furnishes raw materials for about 98 percent of the synthetic vitamins used by Allied and friendly nations.
City council hears a report that dogs were sold from the local pound to Bowman Gray School of Medicine in Winston but no sale record appears in the city report. Dog catcher Poindexter and acting police chief Stoker deny knowledge of the sale while the city manager also claims no awareness. A $34.50 entry in the accounting file shows impounding payments linked to the Bowman Gray School.
Louise Rodger Rector filed for divorce from Otis Sylvester Rector this morning at the clerk's office on grounds of adultery.
Sgt Ida M Stanfield returns to George Field Illinois after leave with her parents Mr and Mrs W O Stanfield. Second Lt Gurney H King of Welch Street is a 25 year old bombardier decorated with air medal and three oak leaf clusters for combat merit. James E Holton Jr Route 1 Jamestown promoted to staff sergeant somewhere in England. his wife and parents listed.
S/Sgt Rufus C Allred of the Eighth Air Force Flying Fortress waist gunner receives the Air Medal with three oak leaf clusters for meritorious achievement during numerous bombing assaults on German occupied countries.
Police report a theft at the Sanitary Food Store at West Point avenue and English street. Between 50 and 75 cartons of cigarettes and various tobaccos were stolen along with a cash register containing $25 in silver and currency. Investigators are examining the robbery.
High Point dairy industry transportation committee with the Office of Defense Transportation adopts a plan to save 58 400 truck miles per year in the area. The plan, based on a producer to processor milk haul survey, will go to Washington for ODT approval and be on file in Winston Salem for 10 days for review.
Former Governor Clyde R Hoey addressed the Thomasville Rotary Club and guests at the Woman's club building. He urged postwar peace, reduced taxes, and a world tribunal to prevent future wars, praising American prosperity and urging national unity. Mentions visitors from multiple cities and organizations.
Advancement chairman C. W. Robinson announces the Boy Scout board of review was deferred from Monday May 1 to Friday night May 5 at Leonard Street School. The regular count of honor follows on May 8 with the court of honor at St Stephens A M E Zion Church on the 5th.

Friends of Mrs. L. B. Simpson learn her sister, who lives in Rock Hill, S C, died there on Wednesday.

Local court in Thomasville will try numerous cases at the May term in Lexington on May 8 and 9. Judge F Donald Phillips will preside. Solicitor Norman A Boren prosecutes. List includes Robert Little for crime against nature and others for trespass, larceny, assault, drunken driving, and related offenses by various defendants.
A British wartime notice invites Adolf Hitler to apply for a position at the Sedgefield Inn, noting no suitable applicants in files and joking that Hitler’s prior work in that field is known while adding the caveat he is likely busy with essential war work.
A War Manpower Commission program urges textile workers to comply with a 48 hour week order becoming elective May 14. Ralph E. Miller, head of the local office, says plant representatives will explain the program and the war effort's need to meet quotas. Exemptions exist but noncompliance can lead to penalties.
A Guilford court Tuesday morning heard a larceny charge against a 17 year old named Clarence Hutchins. The High Point resident allegedly snatched a money bag from a cafe as he waited for coffee. A second Clarence Hute from Route 1 Jamestown also has court records, facing similar confusion over his name.
