Chinese and Japanese clash amid south Shantung fighting near Tancheng
Chinese infantry repulsed ten Japanese incidents on three village fortifications and then advanced about a mile as veterans under General Chiang Kai Shek sought to encircle Tancheng 22 miles north of the Lunghai line. Japanese reinforcements moved toward the Tientsin-Pukow railroad as troops trains filled the interior corridors. An offensive at Hofei threatened Chinese headquarters while Chaohsien fell on Lake Chao’s shore, cutting a key Anhwei railway link.
