Bob Buck, 20, of Westfield New Jersey, departed at 11:85 a.m. today in his private plane for New York. He planned a possible overnight stop in Charleston, South Carolina.
Luke Lea and Luke Lea Jr. will face the North Carolina Supreme Court next Wednesday after the U S Supreme Court denied review of their habeas corpus appeals. The elder Lea has a six to ten year sentence, Lea Jr. faces fines and up to six years. both were convicted in Asheville in 1981 of violating banking laws. Officials expect remand to Buncombe County deputies Laur ence Brown and Frank Lakey for custody.
In Jackson Mississippi on May 3 Bishop James Cannon Jr a militant Episcopalian figure in the Methodist Episcopal Church South won a preliminary fight to remain active in the College of Bishops. The quadrennial conference voted 269 to 170 to add his name to the list for continued active duty. The vote followed a debate over retirement amid allegations related to campaign finance and alleged infirmities.

Mike Stefanoff R E B Black and Joe E Dalton are condemned for killings tied to the Taylorsville bank cashier during an attempted robbery. The court upheld the alternate juror law and allowed non expert insanity testimony and voluntary confessions as evidence. Bascom Green and Lester Green remain on death row for the same bank slaying and have appealed separately.
